‘Lord Mayor’ event honors Driscoll

TORRINGTON — Mayor Elinor Carbone will honor the family of Timothy W. Driscoll Sr. in a posthumous recognitio­n as “Lord Mayor” for the 2019 Saint Patrick’s Day celebratio­n on Monday, March 18. Festivitie­s will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of City Hall with the raising of the Irish flag, following with a performanc­e by the McCardle Dancers at 11:15 am in the Auditorium. Light refreshmen­ts will be served.

“Tim Driscoll spent years giving back to his community. His contributi­ons are evidenced through his work as a City Councilman from 1989 to 1993, as well as hosting City Views for many years. He is remembered and loved for his tireless commitment to raising money for St. Jude’s Research Hospital, founding the “Tim Driscoll St. Jude’s Telethon” in Torrington in 1979. Since his passing, his children have honored him by caring on this legacy,” said Mayor Carbone. “I welcome our residents to City Hall to celebrate and honor “Lord Mayor Driscoll” for his involvemen­t in the City of Torrington and the inspiratio­n of our citizens.”

Driscoll was very proud of his Irish heritage, instilling a sense or Irish pride in his family. O’Driscoll was most prominent in County Cork and County Kerry. In 1973 Tim married Catherine Bauer, and together they raised 4 children, Kyla, Tim Jr., Kevin and Kristin.
