- CONTRIBUTED STORY

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Historical Society and the Northwest Connecticut Chamber Education Foundation are teaming up once again to showcase six Torrington homes and to raise funds for educational programs.

The 2019 Torrington House Tour includes two separate events: a preview party Sept. 27 and the house tour Sept. 28. This year’s tour includes six homes in a variety of styles. Details of the house tour are available at www.torringtonhousetour.org. Tickets may be purchased on the website or in person at the Chamber of Commerce or the Torrington Historical Society.

The homes selected for the 2019 tour range in date from 1820 to 1957. Together, they comprise more than 150 years of Torrington’s history. This year’s tour will return to the Doolittle House, ca 1850, on New Harwinton Road, which was a highlight of the 2015 tour.

On the west side, a slightly older farmhouse known as the Nickel Brook Farm, will be featured for the first time.

There are two attractive houses from the early 20th century, one in the Wilson Avenue neighborhood and one on Riverside Avenue along the Naugatuck River. Rounding out the tour are two very different midcentury homes, one in the Colonial Revival style and one decidedly MidCentury Modern.

Tickets for the 2019 house tour are $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the tour.

On Sept. 28, the tour begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Participants will start at the Chamber of Commerce, 333 Kennedy Drive, where they will receive a program guide and map. Participants can drive their own cars and park near each home. No shuttle buses will be available this year.

The Sept. 27 House Tour Preview Party will feature a bus tour of the 2019 homes followed by a reception with music and refreshments. The preview party will be held at Five Points Center for the Visual Arts on Water Street. The Preview Party bus tour will take place from 57 p.m. and the Preview Party will be held from 79 p.m. Tickets for the preview tour and party are $75.

The presenting sponsor for the 2019 Torrington House Tour is Eastside Electric Inc., Electrical Contractors.
