Sikorsky honored for support of vets
Sikorsky has earned national recognition for its support of veterans and their families.
The Stratfordbased manufacturer was recently honored by Hope For The Warriors for its commitment to providing opportunities for its veteran employees. As a result, Sikorsky and President Dan Schultz received the national nonprofit’s Veteran Impact Award at its 10th annual Got Heart Give Hope Gala in Washington, D.C.
The accolade is one of six new awards that Hope For The Warriors presented Thursday at its event. The Veteran Impact Award is presented to a company “where veterans are valued as part of company culture, both as employees and as significant contributors to the community.”
“Being recognized by Hope for the Warriors for our support of veterans is an incredible honor,” Schultz said in an emailed statement to Hearst Connecticut Media. “Sikorsky is well known for its mission of providing helicopters that bring service members home everywhere, every time. We are equally committed to veterans’ well being after their time in service.”
More than 20 percent of the workforce at Sikorsky’s parent company Lockheed Martin is comprised of veterans, he added.
Hope For The Warriors has served as an advocate for post 9/11 veterans, service members and military families since the nonprofit was founded in 2006. The organization has reportedly provided assistance to more than 23,200 people through different support programs focused on clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation and transition.
“Sikorsky makes hiring veterans a priority and has created a workplace atmosphere with the goal of attracting and retaining veterans,” the nonprofit wrote in a news release.
