Bank recognized for volunteerism
THOMASTON – Thomaston Savings Bank recently received an Honorable Mention for its commitment to volunteerism in the 2019 American Bankers Association Foundation’s Community Commitment Awards.
These awards recognize banks for their corporate social responsibility efforts in categories ranging from affordable housing to economic inclusion throughout the United States.
The selection committee, made up of independent, national experts in each category, reviewed bank nominations from across the country and chose winners based on their creativity and thoughtfulness of the bank program. The ABA Foundation states that banks recognized must embody the ideals of corporate social responsibility and demonstrate success in measureable terms.
Thomaston Savings Bank has been committed to the community since its inception in 1874. The Bank’s philanthropic tidings are propelled through its employees, Corporators, and Board members and their ongoing commitment to giving back.
In 2018 Bank employees volunteered over 4,550 hours with hundreds of area organizations. The Bank is continually supportive of en
abling all of its employees to take time away from work to volunteer with organizations who serve our neighbors in need in countless capacities.
“Our employees prove their passion for the community by continuously donating their time to benefit the organizations and people who need their support. We are proud to make our employee’s causes heard and support the organizations they feel so strongly about,” said Jim Nichol, Thomaston Savings Bank executive vice president and chief operating officer.
On any given day, Bank employees can be found constructing homes, serving meals to the hungry, collecting blankets, landscaping, mentoring, running in 5K fundraisers or ringing the bells at kettle drives just to name a few volunteer activities. The word no is not in their vocabulary.
“While we are honored by the thanks and recognition we receive for our philanthropy, it is our passion for bettering the lives of those around us that keeps us committed to the community. Thomaston Savings Bank and its employees will continue to support the organizations who do so much in aiding the progress and wellbeing of all those who live, work, and play in our neighborhoods,” said Stephen
Lewis, Thomaston Savings Bank, President and CEO
GHAR raises funds for Rebuilding Together
HARTFORD — The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held on Sept. 12 at Blue Fox Run Golf Club in Avon.
The 15th annual golf tournament raised $5,300 from its sponsors, attendees and Realtor members. The proceeds benefit Rebuilding Together Hartford, a nonprofit that brings volunteers and communities together to improve the lives of lowincome Hartford homeowners. A portion of the proceeds were also distributed to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to honor the passing of longtime committee member, Charlie Hartigan.
“It was a special tournament to recognize Charlie and to support an excellent housingrelated organization like Rebuilding Together Hartford. I am so proud of this event and it would not have been possible without the generosity of our Realtor community, participants and sponsors,” said Scott Henry, GHAR Golf Committee chairman
GHAR extended a special thank you to all of the tournament's participants, sponsors and volunteers for making the day such a success.
