A campaign for good business

Tip O’Neill’s book All Politics Is Local includes the “rules of the game” that are refreshing following any political campaign.

His checklist goes something like this: “It’s a round world – what goes around, comes around.”

“Compromise is the art of politics.”

“Take care of your own.” “Never forget whence you came.”

“Never lose your idealism.”

These comments relate not only to politics, but also to everyday life. For the Chamber, the Campaign for Good Business is ongoing and relentless. Please think about electing the Chamber as your premier business resource. Here are the Chamber endorsements:

Your vote for an important organization should go to the United Way. We’re nearing the finish line for the celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 57 p.m. at Chatterley’s Banquet Facility. What we all do together today can change the future for the over 60,000 residents who annually receive services from a United Way Agency.

The unanimous choice for the “event not to miss” goes to the Economic Summit on Nov. 19 at 7:30 a.m. at the Torrington Country Club. Special guest economists, Peter Gioia of CBIA and Donald Klepper Smith of Data Core, will give us the latest update on economic conditions locally and globally. The event is generously sponsored by Bantam Wesson.

Choose to be among the winners and join one of the Chamber Leads Groups that meet regularly. and members are involved and gaining votes for their businesses. Call for information. No contest in this race.

Show your support, especially during the upcoming holiday season, for the northwest corner by shopping locally at the businesses that support this region. Your loyalty is necessary in building and maintaining a vibrant community.

Take advantage of your right to vote on Tuesday, because it really does matter. As for the Chamber, we promise to work tirelessly with the leaders you elect in order to make this a better place in which to live and work. We may not be on the ballot but we hope we are the frontrunner and eventual winner in the campaign for good business.
