Italian Mayor of the Day says thank you

-

On Oct. 12, 2019, I was fortunate to be elected Italian Mayor for the Day from a great organization, the UNICO Club. Although this event was just for one day, everyone involved made the occasion feel like a lifetime.

I cannot express how privileged my family and I felt to be the recipient of this award. I would like to thank Peggy Hotchkiss, Marie Soliano, Brian Matiello, President of the Unico Club, State Representative Michele Cooke, Chief of Police (and my nephew), William Baldwin, and to all the former Italian Mayors for attending and making this truly a special day for me. I would also like to thank Vito Covallo, owner of Gina Marie’s Bakery in Waterbury, for bringing his special musical guest from Italy as well as the Nutmeg Ballet dancers and Chris Cogliano, the accordion player, for adding to the celebration.

I want to thank my family including my nieces, nephews, friends and all those who voted for me for attending and observing this day with me. The refreshments provided by the Oliver Wolcott Technical School Culinary Department and Gina Marie’s Bakery just topped off the day. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. The only regret I have is the Mayor of Torrington, Elinor Carbone, was unable to attend this great and special honor.

I could not ask for more from the City of Torrington, where for 71 years, I lived, worked, raised my family, continue to love and proud to call my home for life. Many, Many Thanks (Gracie Infinite).

Umberto (Albert) Persechino, Torrington
