Save the Children U.S. will be ringing in the new year with a shift in leadership.

The Fairfieldbased nonprofit announced Tuesday that Janti Soeripto will become its new chief executive officer. The longtime Save the Children executive is set to take up her new role by Jan. 1.

"It is a remarkable privilege to have the opportunity to lead Save the Children U.S.," said Soeripto in a press release.

The Weston resident has served as president and chief operating officer of SCUS since June 2019 and brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and corporate sectors to her new role.

She has also served as deputy chief executive officer and COO of Londonbased Save the Children International, which oversees Save the Children programs in the developing world. In her roles, Soeripto led SCI’s office operations in 60 countries.

Soeripto received master’s degrees in economics and finance from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Prior to joining the global nonprofit, Soeripto worked for Unilever. In her 15 years with the company, she oversaw a $600 million business unit with a staff of 250 employees.

“She is a proven leader, and we are delighted she is bringing her many years of expertise to Save the Children U.S.,” said Brad Irwin, chairman of the Save the Children U.S. board, in a press release.

Soeripto will be succeeding Carolyn Miles, who will be leaving the nonprofit after 22 years. During Miles’s tenure, SCUS more than doubled the number of children it reaches with nutrition, health, education and other programs, according to the nonprofit.

“I am confident the team is positioned to drive a bigger, bolder agenda for children with Janti at the helm,” Miles said in press release. “She is an exceptional leader who puts children and families first and isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to change the path for the world’s most vulnerable.”
