⏩ New Canaan residents wonder what’s next in search for Jennifer Dulos.

NEW CANAAN — The news spread rapidly early Tuesday afternoon — Fotis Dulos, initially believed to be dead from an apparent suicide, was clinging to life after he was found unresponsive at his Farmington home.

In New Canaan, where he is accused of attacking his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, at her Welles Lane home, the focus was on the couple’s five children and if the 50-year-old mother will ever be found.

Fotis and Jennifer Dulos were embroiled in a contentious two-year divorce when she vanished on May 24. The children have been staying in New York with Jennifer Dulos’ mother, Gloria Farber, who is seeking permanent custody of them.

“Those poor kids, regardless,” Laura Case reacted to the news of the apparent suicide attempt Tuesday while she was at Waveny Park. “I heard they have an aunt. I hope they have a very strong support system on the mother’s side.”

When Fotis Dulos did not show up for an emergency bond hearing scheduled for noon Tuesday in Stamford, Farmington police were sent to his home to conduct a welfare check. Farmington police Lt. Tim McKenzie said officers found Fotis Dulos inside his garage, suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Fotis Dulos was taken to the UConn Health center near his home in critical condition, before being flown to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y.

“It’s tragic, the whole thing,” said Steve Benko, who was also at Waveny on Tuesday.

On Elm Street, Marlene Tate said she wasn’t all that surprised by what happened on Tuesday.

“I think it shouldn’t be really that big of a surprise because I feel like he was the kind of man that would not own up to anything,” she said. “With the evidence mounting, he could see there was no resolution in his favor.”

According to arrest warrants, Jennifer Dulos was last seen on a neighbor’s security camera at 8:05 a.m. May 24, returning to her Welles Lane home after dropping off her children at a nearby school.

Police believe Fotis Dulos was “lying in wait” and attacked her in the garage, the warrants indicate.

Fotis Dulos and his former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, were caught on video that night in Hartford dumping bags that were later determined to contain Jennifer Dulos’ blood and clothing, according to arrest warrants.

Jennifer Dulos’ blood was also found on the seat of a pickup truck belonging to an employee of Fotis Dulos, according to arrest warrants. Police said Fotis Dulos used the truck on the day his wife was killed.

State and local police launched a massive search for Jennifer Dulos over the past eight months, and some in New Canaan worried Tuesday if she will ever be found to bring her family closure.

“I hope someone tells them where the body is so there is closure,” Deborah Dimuzio said as she was in Waveny Park.

Ed Watson, who was also in the park, said he believed Fotis Dulos has never showed sympathy about his wife’s disappearance.

“He never showed any remorse toward Jennifer,” he said. “He never seemed concerned about her whereabouts.”
