KEEP AN EYE ON

The young and the restless: UConn’s 12-0 second-half run to regain the lead on Sunday against Tulsa was geared by its young players — freshmen Akok Akok, James Bouknight and Jalen Gaffney and sophomores Brendan Adams and Sid Wilson. That’s also a long, athletic lineup that Hurley hopes he can use more as the season progresses.

“It’s a good look for us. Hopefully, we can put that on the court, as much as Akok can hold up on 5-man defense ... It was fun watching those guys out together, ayoung and hungry group of guys flying around, making plays. It was fun to see.”

Who’s the Alpha?: “With this group,” said Hurley, “there’s not an Alpha, in terms of somebody that can cash the check, too. I think we have guys that believe they can do it, but just haven’t been in a position to come through multiple times in their career at the end of games and make the shot or make the play.”

But Hurley believes he’ll find an Alpha eventually — even if not this season.

“I think we’ve got some young ones that are eventually going to do it. If we just stay after it, stay within ourselves, play better situational basketball and not take shots we’re not capable of making, we’ve got enough here where we can do it collectively as a group. I don’t think there’s anyone this year we can just throw the ball to them and they’re gonna bail us out. Eventually we’ll have that, but not this year.”

Sid on the skids?: Wilson, who scored 12 points in Sunday’s loss, banged his knee with a Tulsa player during the game. He may be a gametime decision.
