TEAMS OF THE WEEK

UConn men’s and women’s track and field teams: Huskies swept the titles at the New England Championsh­ips. Wellington Ventura (500), Daniel Claxton (high jump), Travis Snyder (pole vault) and David Ajama (triple jump) were individual winners for the men’s team while Shanelle Colmon (200), Mia Nahom of New Milford (mile) won titles for the women’s team as did the 4x800 and distance medley relay teams. UConn’s teams also combined for eight second-place finishes.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Keith Petruzzell­i, Quinnipiac men’s hockey: After shutting out No. 1 Cornell, he allowed only one goal in a win over Colgate. Petruzzell­i stopped 46 consecutiv­e shots over a span of three games and more than 122 minutes as Bobcats are now tied with Harvard for third place in ECAC standings.

HOMETOWN FOCUS

Dahsia Middlebroo­ks AIC women’s track and field: Senior from New Haven won the triple jump at New Englands with a leap of 12.13 meters (39-9.75). It is the eighth best mark among Division II competitor­s during the indoor season.

1: Southern Connecticu­t State men’s track and field team’s place in the Division II East Region rankings. The Owls are also ranked 29th nationally in Track & Field Rating Index.

1: Place in preseason conference polls for Bridgeport softball, Central Connecticu­t State baseball and Fairfield women’s lacrosse teams. Bridgeport tops the ECC softball poll and is No. 2 in the baseball poll. CCSU is the preseason favorite in the NEC while Fairfield and Monmouth finished tied atop the MAAC women’s lacrosse preseason ranking with 70 points, one ahead of Siena.

2: Wins for Ridgefield’s Sophie Hayes at Little East swimming championsh­ips. Hayes won 100 and 200 butterfly races to lead Keene State to team title to earn LEC Swimmer of Year honors.

3: Southern Connecticu­t swimmers with top times in Northeast-10 heading into conference meet this weekend. John Gaudio (500 freestyle), Chandler Tucker (100 backstroke) and Leo LaPorte (200 butterfly) has posted NE10’s best times in their specialtie­s.

3: 20-point scorers for New Haven men’s basketball team in win over Franklin Pierce as Elijah Bailey and Kessly Felizor had 21 points each and Derrick Rowland added 20.

3.67: GPA for Yale’s women’s swimming and diving team, the best mark of the 20 Connecticu­t teams honored for by College Swimming and Diving Coaches Associatio­n for attaining a team GPA of at least 3.00. The Yale men’s team, Sacred Heart women and Wesleyan women all had GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

4: Consecutiv­e wins for Marist women’s basketball team against Fairfield before Stags won 52-48 last week to improve to 7-2 in the MAAC.

4: Goals for Sacred Heart’s Austin McIlmurray in a twogame sweep of Air Force.

6: Points for Jonny Evans as UConn men’s hockey team swept a weekend series from New Hampshire.

7.62: Winning jump in meters for Hartford’s Terrel Davis in long jump to win New England title and break school record.

7.97: School record time for Coast Guard’s Michelle Kwafo in 60 meters at Branwen Smith-King Invitation­al.

8: Players to score in double figures at least once during Trinity’s men’s basketball team’s four-game winning streak.

9: Consecutiv­e wins for Sacred Heart women’s hockey team as Pioneers now lead NEWHA standings by nine points. Sacred Heart has killed off 33 of 36 penalties during that span.

9: Season low for turnovers committed by Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team in win over Johnson & Wales.

9.9: Score by Bridgeport’s Maya Reimers to win floor exercise in meet against Yale and Southern Connecticu­t. Teammate Julianna Roland and Bianca Leon of SCSU had same score in balance beam the day before in meet also featuring Brown.

10: Blocked shots for ECSU’s Anna Barry in wins over WestConn and UMass Boston.

11: Season high number of blocked shots for Mitchell women’s basketball team in win over Bay Path. Le’Sandra Turner and Ariana Carter led the way with three each.

13: Consecutiv­e games with a blocked shot for Quinnipiac men’s basketball freshman Seth Pinkney including a seasonhigh four the last time out against Niagara.

16: Deficit faced by Yale women’s basketball team in third quarter of win at Cornell as Bulldogs remain undefeated in Ivy League.

17: Offensive rebounds for Bridgeport men’s basketball team in win at Queens to extend winning streak to 13 games. Purple Knights are ranked 10th and 11th in Division II national polls.

21: Ranking for CCSU’s TT Bowens in D1Baseball analytics’ listing of best returning hitters. Quinnipiac’s Andre Marrero comes in at No. 106 and Yale’s Jake Gehri is No. 148. Hartford’s Nick Dombrowski comes in at No. 87 and Yale’s Alex Stiegler is No. 110 in the list of top pitchers.

21.8: Average margin of victory for USJ men’s basketball team in six GNAC games. The Blue Jays moved into sole possession of first place with 37-point win at Lasell.

26: Points for Clinton’s Sami Ashton as Conn College women’s basketball team against Middlebury as Camels picked up first road NECAC win of season.

32: Combined wins for Post men’s and women’s basketball teams as both teams have 16 wins. The squads combined for 24 wins a season ago.

39: Points in last two games for Quinnipiac senior Taylor Herd as Bobcats extend winning streak to three games.

39: Winning score in all-around for Yale women’s gymnast Jade Buford as Bulldogs defeated Bridgeport and Southern Connecticu­t.

GET OUT AND GO

Men’s basketball, Harvard at Yale, Friday, 5 p.m.: When the rivals played twice in New Haven last season, both were action packed to say the least. Yale led by 14 points in the first half and by six with 2:26 left. After Harvard went up by three, Alex Copeland tied the game with a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left before Harvard’s Bryce Aiken won it with a jumper with 2 seconds left. In the Ivy tournament final, Yale rallied from seven points down in the second half to win the title.

Men’s hockey, Quinnipiac at Yale, Friday, 7 p.m.: Rivals meet for first time this season. Since the start of December, Quinnipiac is 9-2 while Yale is 7-4-1.

Men’s basketball, Robert Morris at Sacred Heart, Saturday, 3 p.m.: Teams are fighting for second place in NEC standings and hope to remain within striking range of conference leading Merrimack. The Pioneers will also host Saint Francis on Thursday in the first meeting between the teams since a heated affair that resulted in multiple technical fouls and suspension­s.

Men’s basketball, Vermont at Hartford, Saturday, 7 p.m.:

First place in the America East could be on the line when defending champion Vermont makes trip to face Hawks.
