FOOD DRIVE: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 837 Charles Street, Torrington, is sponsoring a Contactless Drive-Thru Food Drive, to benefit clients of Friendly Hands Food Bank, 10 a.m.-noon, May 9 in the church parking lot. Food can be placed in your trunk or back seat; someone wearing a mask and gloves will retrieve it and add it to other donations. Members are encouraging fresh/frozen meat, dairy, veggies and fruit of any kind. Of course, nonperishables, paper products, and pet food are also accepted. Monetary donations are also welcome. Rain or shine; enter through the Charles Street driveway (across from Torringford School) and exit on Torringford West Street. VIRTUAL CAMP OPEN HOUSE: Camp Moe is holding a virtual open house online on May 9 on the camp’s Facebook page and on campmoe.org. From 1-3 p.m., director Stephanie Renzullo will be on the Zoom app and be available to families to answer questions and address any concerns. She’ll send a Zoom link to all registered families. Camp Moe is waiting for further decisions from Gov. Ned Lamont on whether the state will reopen in time for camp to begin. PLANT SALE: Region 7’s FFA students are selling a large assortment of hanging baskets and geraniums, as well as a wide variety of vegetable and bedding plants for containers and gardens. FOOD DRIVE: The Little Free Pantry at St. John's Pine Meadow, in the back of the Church has had a significant increase in usage during these difficult times. From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 9, donations of non-perishable food donations can be brought to a no-contact drive-thru food collection in front of St. John's. A volunteer will take the donations from your car’s trunk.
DRIVE-IN OPEN: See “Trolls World Tour” and “The Invisible Man” at the Pleasant Valley Drive-in, Pleasant Valley, May 9, first movie starts about 30 minutes after sunset, about 8:15 p.m. One ticket includes two movies. MAKE MUSIC DAY: Make Music NWCT is making its third annual return to the Northwest corner through the Northwest CT Arts Council, June 21. People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to create music at participating venues all over the region on the longest day of the year. WALK IN HER SHOES: Susan B. Anthony Project’s 3rd annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser will be a virtual event this year from May 11 – 31. It was originally scheduled to take place on May 17 on the Green in Litchfield, and subsequently postponed. Register at www.sbaproject.org/walkamile beginning May 11; participants are encouraged to register by May 16. The official Walk Kick-Off and Opening Ceremony will be held May 17, followed by fundraising activities and challenges, culminating with a Finish Line Ceremony on May 31.
VIRUTAL MEMORIAL DAY: To protect the health of residents and visitors, Torrington’s Memorial Day parade has been canceled. Mayor Elinor Carbone and the Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee will develop a “virtual parade” slideshow, and a video veterans’ recognition ceremony, to be shared at torringtonct.org and with local media. All Torrington organizations are asked to share a photo of their group celebrating veterans, holding signs with a message, or showing decorations. Email the photos to vetactcom@yahoo.com by May 22. If a group photo isn’t possible, send one of your group from a previous parade. All the pictures will be included in a slide show at 9 a.m. May 25.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Community Health & Wellness of Greater Torrington will hold a Driving Away Hunger initiative at its 469 Migeon Avenue facility, 3-5 p.m., May 13. The center will provide 100 satchels of nonperishable food items to community members on a first come, first serve basis to help alleviate the stress of immediate food concerns. Residents in need can drive through or walk to the parking lot, and CHWC staff will give each family or individual a satchel of food to take home.
