Witkos gets GOP nod for reelection bid in 8th District Senate

CANTON — State Sen. Kevin Witkos, R-Canton, has received his party’s nomination to run for a seventh term in the 8th District.

He was nominated unanimousl­y at a May 18 virtual convention.

“I am honored by the support of the Republican delegates of the 8th District for their faith and trust,” Witkos said in a statement. “Serving as State Senator for the 11 towns of the 8th District is something I take great pride in and I strive to represent the interests of my constituen­ts and respond to their needs to the best of my ability on a daily basis.

“As the state of Connecticu­t continues to respond to unpreceden­ted challenges brought upon by the Covid-19 pandemic, experience­d and trusted leadership is more important than ever. I am proud of my reputation of consensus building and common-sense leadership and look forward to continuing to serve the residents of the 8th Senate District,” he said.

Witkos serves as deputy Senate minority leader and ranking member of the

Finance, Revenue & Bonding committee, ranking member of the General Law Committee, member of the State Bond Commission, and member of the Executive & Legislativ­e Nomination­s committee.

He previously served as a state representa­tive and retired from the Canton Police Department as a sergeant after a 28-year career in law enforcemen­t. He works for Eversource as a community relations specialist.

The 8th District includes the towns of Avon, Barkhamste­d, Canton, Colebrook, part of Granby, Hartland, part of Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury and part of Torrington.
