COVID-19 testing offered Wednesday at Coe Memorial Park

TORRINGTON — Community Health and Wellness Center is offering weekly testing for COVID-19 throughout the next month at locations around the community. The test is free, and results are available in two to three days.

The CHWC testing team includes Michelle Brady, director of nursing; Tara Monroy, practice manager; nurses; patient service representa­tives; and Jaclyn “Jacki” Alessio, licensed clinical social worker, who assists with registrati­on and offers behavioral health and wellness counseling.

The first COVID-19 outreach was held June 17 at Trinity Episcopal Church in the parking lot at 220 Prospect St.. A total of 37 people were tested. Wednesday, CHWC will offer testing at Coe Memorial Park from 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Gov. Ned Lamont has said he wants the state to conduct 42,000 tests per week through the end of July. The goal is 100,000 tests per week by August.

“Testing during this pandemic is vitally important,” said Joanne Borduas,

CEO of CHWC. “It leads to rapid identifica­tion of cases, quick treatment for infected individual­s combined with immediate isolation to prevent spread. Early testing also helps to identify anyone who came into contact with infected people so they too can be quickly treated.

“I am proud of our dedicated team who are working hard on the frontlines to help keep our community healthy and safem: Borduas said. “They are truly healthcare heroes.”
