The Register Citizen (Torrington, CT)

Thanks to Litchfield County dispatchers

-

To the Editor:

I would like to say a word about our Litchfield County dispatchers. Out of all responders of every department our country or cities have, this is one that has never been mentioned or thanked.

My credit and appreciation goes to all who have been helping to save lives in this pandemic, and are always here, for that matter, in everyday situations. For this there are no words to express the appreciation for their work. However, our dispatchers are of tremendous importance in everyday life, and especially in this time of unrest.

They are hard working, dedicated people who are up at the crack of dawn, many working 12 hour days, and are trained much more than most realize. They have to be sharp, aware, thorough with taking 911 calls, and not leave a stone unturned. They must learn to listen carefully, know what to ask, when to ask it, and take into consideration people who are screaming, yelling, crying, cursing, drinking, possibly dying. They must know what to say, ask and think out of the box quickly. Without the dispatchers, who would you call for help? Think about that.

So to all who give their time, knowledge, common sense, intelligence and who are there to take on the task of helping save lives, regardless of what the problems are. I and a family member have worked for the police, fire department, EMS and in mental health, and details are well known, needed and must be handled well and accurately in all situations.

For all this, I thank them also for all their work, dedication, care and concern, and hope that others see these trials and feel as I do. May all of our emergency workers, plus others who have helped in our impossible days, such as postal workers, those who have gotten food for those out of work, those who have taken the time to make masks and gowns to help; stores, restaurants and bar owners cooperating, and yes, even our politicians, you are thanked and appreciated. We are blessed and grateful for what all of you do each day and for all you have done. Be safe and well, and we hope for normalcy in the near future.
