Three Connecticut natives, a pair of former Yale stars and one from Sacred Heart are members of the opening day roster for Major League Lacrosse’s Connecticut Hammerheads.

New Canaan’s Michael Kraus and Wilton’s Michael Brown, two of the team’s top three picks in the MLL draft, are joined by Norwich’s Noah Rak (second on the 2019 Rattlers with 77 faceoff wins and second with 43 groundballs), Yale products Robert Mooney and Will Renz and former Sacred Heart standout Landon Kramer give the team a Connecticut flavor even if the team will have to wait until 2021 to play its first game in Connecticut.

Kraus, Brown and Renz join the team after being selected in the draft. They will be added to a nucleus featuring much of last year’s Dallas Rattlers squad. Ryan McNamara, a 29-goal scorer in 2019, is joined by fellow returning double-digit goal scorers Bradley Voigt and Cody Radziewicz.

Will Sands, who finished third in MLL with 32 assists in 2019, was acquired in a trade for the Bryce Wasserman, the Rattlers’ top scorer a season ago.

Sean Sconone, who led the team with 168 saves, and Kris Alleyne return in goal. The defense will have a different look as Greg Wehl is the only one of the four defensemen to appear in at least 10 games for Dallas in 2019 on the Hammerheads roster.

The Philadelphia Barrage’s roster includes Darien natives Mark Evanchick, Chris Madalon and Colin Minicus, Greenwich’s Decker Curran and former Fairfield

University star Colin Burke are on the New York Lizards roster, Chesapeake’s roster includes New Fairfield’s CJ Costabile, Ridgefield’s Chase Levesque and former Yale defenseman Will Weitzel. Madison’s Casey Dowd and former Sacred Heart University standout Andrew Newbold are on the Denver roster.

The MLL season will be held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland from July 18-26. The Hammerheads will play Denver on July 18, Philadelphia on July 20, New York on July 22, Boston on July 23 and host Chesapeake on July 25. The top four teams advance to the July 25 semifinals with the MLL title game set for July 26.

Each of the six teams have a 25-player active roster and five reserve players who can be added to the roster if a player tests positive for COVID-19.
