Stop waiting for COVID ‘miracle’
In my opinion the recent series of events cries out for a response. First, the allegations of Russian targeting for slaughter by paying Taliban troops is absolutely reprehensible and demands not only a stringent and predictable response by President Trump, but also possibly one that is a very limited military action.
However, Trump’s constant refusal to act or comment is a blatant example of his unmanliness towards Putin and inability to show strength to the world. Rather he portrays himself as a defunct leader to the rest of the world.
Unfortunately, Trump’s only concern is the fluctuation in the stock markets, our economy and whether it will determine his success in the November election for president of the United States.
Now the fact is that his administration consists of a group of sycophants devoid of any permanent appointment and has practically no real power or authority. They come and go, depending upon his benign opinion of them, not necessarily demonstrating with competence, experience or skill set for the position they occupy. He is the boss and commander in chief of everything. No one is irreplaceable, except for his penchant for his daughter and son-in-law who hold real authority but not public accountability.
As time passes, it seems to me that the staunch control Trump possesses over his supporters is waning and lies about the virus are surfacing. Furthermore, people are being infected in the thousands daily and the prediction that COVID-19 is being “handled” is obviously false.
Conversely Dr. Anthony Fauci’s professional public admonition to “wear a mask,” not congregate in large numbers, to wash your hands frequently and disinfect surfaces was a correct start to public health gains. Where these rules were practiced, the number of sick patients has dropped enormously.
Trump has foolishly predicted “miraculous” COVID disappearance or a wonder cure in the current period. How much more ridiculous could one be?
Truly science and dedicated men and women working to find a cure or vaccine is really our only hope, and no one knows how long that will take, if at all.
