4 states added to travel advisory, Delaware taken off
A travel advisory requiring visitors or people returning to Connecticut, New York or New Jersey to quarantine for 14 days now includes four new states: Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Delaware, which was added to the list last week, has been removed — meaning former Vice
President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president who has been campaigning from his home in Delaware, can now travel to the three blue states.
That brings the total to 22, up from 19 last week — as Connecticut continued its strong progress in reducing COVID-19, with 20 new cases out of 2,447 tests reported Tuesday.
The states covered by the travel advisory — based on new COVID-19 cases or percentages of positive tests — now covers nearly half of the continental U.S. with most Southern and Western states included. It includes the three most populous states, California, Florida and Texas. The closest state on the list to the tri-state area is now Ohio.
On Monday, Gov. Ned Lamont announced he would step up enforcement of the advisory this week after a number of anecdotal reports that people are not adhering to the order to quarantine or be tested upon arrival here.
Passengers arriving at Connecticut airports including Bradley International Airport will be asked to fill out documents stating where they are coming from, where they will be enduring their quarantine, and how they can be contacted.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced a $2,000 fine for anyone who refuses to fill out the paperwork at a New York airport, saying he would have law enforcement issue summonses. Lamont indicated Monday he might need to resort to fines, but said Tuesday, “We’re not considering fines.”
