Beach parking permits sell out

- STAFF REPORTS

WINSTED — The Recreation Department announced this week that 2020 beach parking permits have sold out.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, fewer stickers were sold this year than in the past, and were made available on a first come, first serve basis, officials said.

The permits are for parking lots only, not beach use.

Permits provide beachgoers access to park in both lots on a first come, first serve basis. The Town of Winchester Recreation Department does not charge a fee to use the beach.

Parking permits are required from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Sunday, when lifeguards are on duty. This is the only time when parking permits are required.

After lifeguards leave the beach, residents are allowed to swim at their own risk.

Drop-offs and walk-ins can go to both town beaches, as long as rules and regulations are followed.
