Town committee supports those demanding change

-

The recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery have shocked the nation. The brutal killing of these innocent people motivated millions of Americans to take to the streets to demand policing reforms and an end to systemic racism and inequality, once and for all.

We, the members of the Torrington Democratic Town Committee, support all of those who are protesting safely and demanding change, from large cities to small communities like Torrington. We share the belief that now is the time for action and that we must not wait for the economy to improve, the pandemic to end, or civil and criminal cases to be litigated. The fight for social justice and equality must become and remain one of our nation’s highest priorities.

We are committed to stand with our community and our nation in achieving social justice and equality for all Americans, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

“Not everything faced can be changed…But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” — James Baldwin

Paul Summers, chairman, on behalf of the Torrington Democratic Town Committee
