LWV offers voter registration tips

The League of Women Voters reminds all residents that to participate in the general election, you must be a U.S. citizen, resident of Connecticut and 18 by Nov. 3, 2020.

The easiest way to register is online, using a CT driver’s license or another DMV-issued id at www.voterregistration.ct.gov.

Those who do not have a DMVissued id may also register by mail using the last four digits of your Social Security number. Download a registration form in English or Spanish here: https:// portal.ct.gov/SOTS/ Election-Services/Register-toVote/Voter-RegistrationApplication-English-and-Spanish and mail it to your local Registrar’s office or register in person if they are open. For more information about special circumstances or to obtain an absentee ballot application, visit https:// portal.ct.gov/SOTS/ Election-Services/V5-SideNavigation/ELE---VoterInformation

The registration deadline is Oct. 27, 2020 for the Nov. 3election. For information about candidates visit www.vote411.org

Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive a letter in the mail confirming your registration and where you will go to vote.

• There are two primaries Aug. 11, one for the Republican party and one for the Democratic party — but Connecticut is a “closed” primary state, meaning that only those registered in those two parties may participate. If you are already registered in a party (and this includes the Independent and Working Families parties) it is too late to switch parties. Voters registered as “Unaffiliated” for at least 3 months may affiliate before the primary but should do so as soon as possible, preferably online, since many town and city halls have limited office hours, and mail-in changes may take additional time.

Golf tournament benefits Little League

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Little League Softball organization (TLLS) will be hosting a fundraising event Aug. 14 at the Fairview Farms Golf Course, 300 Hill Road, Harwinton.

This event is an opportunity for golfers of all skill levels to get out and enjoy a day at the course while supporting our nonprofit and the youth that we service. A fee of $150 per golfer includes green fees, cart, boxed lunch and dinner.

“With the current events, our organization is doing everything we can to keep our community united and engaged. We’re so lucky that our girls will continue to play over the summer. This event is a great way to support our teams in this difficult time, and also the businesses who so graciously sponsor the tournament,” members said in a statement.
