TORRINGTON — Police Friday identified the victim of a fatal New Litchfield Street crash as a Watertown man.

Sean Ryan, 46, died after his vehicle was hit by a another car on New Litchfield Street at about 2 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

Torrington Police Detective Kevin Tieman said Friday that the department knows the identity of the driver whose car allegedly struck the one Ryan was driving. “We are working on leads as to locating him,” Tieman said in an email.

Police, firefighters and medics responded to the motor vehicle crash on New Litchfield Street near Hassig Road Thursday and found two vehicles off the road and partially in the woods, according to Tieman.

Investigators learned that the two vehicles were headed west on Route 202 (known as New Litchfield Street) and were witnessed by another driver who alleged they were “racing,” Tieman said.

He said the driver of one of the vehicles involved, an Audi A4, was allegedly driving at a “high rate of speed” and while passing the other vehicle, and hit a third vehicle that was headed east on Route 202. The driver of the Audi fled the scene on foot.

The third vehicle, a Lincoln sedan, had “significant driver’s side intrusion as a result of the crash,” Tieman said.

A female front seat passenger in the Lincoln was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with internal injuries that Tieman said were reportedly not life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle that was passed by the driver of the Audi was found shortly after, Tieman said. All three vehicles were seized.
