Drakeville volunteer firefighters holding fundraising dinner
TORRINGTON — The Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual pasta dinner Sept. 19 at the firehouse. This annual event is a not only a fundraiser for the department but has been a long-standing tradition for the organization and the Torrington community, members said.
“This year is especially crucial to ensure the financial health of the fire department,” said fire chief David Maccalous. “The cost of firefighting continues to rise, while funding lessens. The upkeep of gear, equipment, apparatus and even the building and grounds are all aspects of the organization we need to keep funded so that we may operate effectively.”
Members say the fire department was challenged with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic in March and April of this year. Members cancelled the department’s annual pancake breakfast, another long-standing tradition.
The pasta dinner will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the firehouse, 1349 Marshall Lake Road, Torrington, and will feature a hot pasta and meatball dinner complimented with rolls, salad, beverage and ice cream dessert. The event will folow all CDC guidelines including socially-distanced seating both indoors and outdoors, according to members.
Drive-up ordering will also be available the day of the dinner, with tickets sold at the door, on the department’s Facebook page or from any member. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children age 5 and under.
All proceeds will support the Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department. “These funds will help with the department’s current budget deficit and will ensure they continue to operate, serving the residents of the Drakeville district and City of Torrington,” members said.
