Giants agree to terms with free agent Ryan
Logan Ryan is joining the Giants.
Ryan, 29, the former Patriots and Titans defensive back, has agreed to a oneyear, $7.5 million deal to reunite with Joe Judge in New York, according to a source.
“I’m coming home!!” tweeted Ryan, a Berlin, N.J., and Rutgers product, tagging the Giants and their new hashtag #TogetherBlue.
Ryan and Judge won two Super Bowls together in New England during Ryan’s four years on the Patriots (2013-16). Judge was a special teams assistant and coordinator during those years.
Ryan made sense as a Giants free agent target all the way back in March. And that was before outside corner DeAndre Baker was arrested for an alleged armed robbery in May; outside corner Sam Beal opted out of the 2020 season; and second-round free safety pick Xavier McKinney fractured his left foot and required surgery last week.
Ryan’s addition does not address the Giants’ problem at outside corner, but he will be a Swiss-Army knife to help replace the loss of McKinney as a roving extra safety or slot corner.
He’s also a well-respected veteran leader who is active in the community.
Ryan as a Titan in 2019 was one of only two free agent corners who played 99% of his team’s snaps last season, along with Denver’s Chris Harris Jr.
A slot corner with versatility to play safety, he led the Titans in 2019 in tackles (113) and forced fumbles (four), and finished second in interceptions (four) and first in postseason tackles (25).
He can contribute on special teams, as well.
Though it’s only a oneyear deal, he promises to be a major part of the 2020 Giants team.
