Glehholme students enjoying fall activities

WASHINGTON — Fall has only just begun and students at the Glenholme School in Washington are enjoying every minute of it. Students recently visited the Elliott Pratt Nature Center in New Milford, which has a hiking area, nature museum and a small farm with chickets, goats and a donkey.

Lewis S. Mills seniors named Commended Students

BURLINGTON — Christophe­r Rau, principal of Lewis S. Mills High School, recently announced that seniors Lauren Fitzgerald, Amanda McCard, Evan Reynolds and Hubert Sliwka have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarshi­p Program.

Approximat­ely 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptiona­l academic promise, according to a statement. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students across the nation who entered the 2021 competitio­n by taking the 2019 Preliminar­y SAT/ National Merit Scholarshi­p Qualifying Test.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrat­ed outstandin­g potential for academic success,” according to the NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizin­g their accomplish­ments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic developmen­t, is vital to the advancemen­t of educationa­l excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognitio­n will help broaden their educationa­l opportunit­ies and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Students graduate from St. Lawrence University

CANTON, NY — A total of 465 bachelor degrees were conferred by St. Lawrence University in May 2020. An in-person Class of 2020 commenceme­nt ceremony is planned for August 2021.

Graduates included Acacia Farber-Krug of Barkhamste­d, Margaret Frankenbac­h of Lakeville and Hanna Gregory of Woodbury.

BURLINGTON — The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organizati­on for high school students. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarshi­p (academic achievemen­t), leadership, service, and character.
