The coalition continues to be an asset to the community with strong support from the Region 10 School District administration and the First Selectmen of both towns. Since our start, the Coalition has grown and been awarded a grant through the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, allowing for a full-time Prevention Coordinator through the McCall Center for Behavioral Health, and a Youth Advocate. The Region 10 Community Wellness Coalition works to reduce youth substance use in the towns of Harwinton and Burlington by fostering positive environmental change shaped by community members themselves.
Christmastime in Torrington is planning events
TORRINGTON – Mayor Carbone recently announced the Christmastime in Torrington, Your Home for the Holidays Group is once again planning events for the upcoming holidays.
Last year the group recognized an opportunity to promote Torrington during the holiday season. A calendar was published and available throughout the City in businesses and restaurants so visitors and residents alike would know what events were taking place each day from Thanksgiving to New Year’s.
This year the group is launching the official website, ChristmastimeinTorrington.org, where residents will find all the holiday happenings as well as information about Christmas Village, and a guide to local businesses. The website’s interactive calendar will allow businesses and organizations to submit information regarding their activities. In this time of COVID pandemic uncertainty, posting directly to the calendar will keep visitors and residents current on special events and festivities taking place throughout the season.
More holiday decorations, lights and events on Main Street are planned. Businesses on Main and the surrounding area will be adorning their windows with holiday display.
“Christmastime in Torrington’s goal to create community collaboration among residents, businesses and the City to celebrate the season continues. Positive feedback from last year’s decorations and events has motivated the group to be more creative this year to provide safe activities for all to enjoy during the COVID pandemic. Once again we will be dressed for the holidays and open for business,” Carbone said.
