Ceremonies to mark Veterans Day set for Wednesday

Torrington: Torrington American Legion members have scheduled a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Coe Memorial Park, Litchfield Street. Members say they will raise flags and offer thanks to all veterans who have served their country. Guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing. If it rains, the ceremony will be held inside the park’s civic center.

Harwinton: American Legion Post 137 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on the town green, Route 4 and South Road. Harwinton veterans that died over the past year will be honored at the ceremony. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department firehouse, 158 Burlington Road/Route 4. Guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.

New Hartford: The town will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chapin Park, Pine Meadow Green, Harwinton. All are welcome. Guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be canceled.

Winsted: For the 12th year, Swell’s Car Wash is offering veterans and active military personnel with a free car wash in recognitio­n of Veterans Day. Washes will be offered through Nov. 11, 7:30 a.m-7 p.m.

Splash Car Wash is continuing its tradition of washing cars for veterans and active-duty personnel for free on Veterans Day. For more informatio­n go to http://graceforve­ts.org/

American Family Care’s Urgent Care Center, East Main Street, Torrington, and its other centers around the state, are offering free flu shots to veterans on Veterans Day. Eligible veterans must provide identifica­tion.
