LEAF, WASTE PICKUP: Leaf and yard waste pickup for Torrington residents starts Nov. 9 and ends Dec. 4, weather permitting. Leaves and yard waste, such as grass clippings, in biodegrada­ble paper bags, should be placed curbside on garbage pickup day. Don’t mix with garbage. Do not call to schedule pickup.

GIFT SHOP OPEN: The Auxiliary Gift Shop, 120 Willow St., Winsted, is open for the holidays, Nov. 16 through Dec. 19, open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9:30 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. All money is donated to the communitie­s in our area.

COATS NEEDED: Coats are needed for the 6th annual “Rally to End Hunger and Homelessne­ss in NWCT,” which will take on a new format due to the Coronaviru­s.

FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of NWCT and Joseph’s House are sponsoring the annual coat giveaway. Coats are being collected at two locations until Nov. 17: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where donors can leave coats in a plastic bag outside the door at 837 Charles St, and at the back door of St. Francis Church office, St. John Paul the Great Parish, 160 Main St.

DECORATING CONTEST: The Winsted Lions Club is holding a Christmas House-Decorating Contest. To enter, send your name, address, contact inforamati­on and a $10 entry fee to PO Box 241, Winsted, CT 06098. Forms must be postmarked on or before Dec. 19. Houses being judged must be in Winsted or Winchester. Winners will be selected by Dec. 24. First, second and third place will be awarded. DRONE INSPECTION­S: Eversource will be conducting drone inspection­s in their distributi­on right-of-ways starting Nov. 14 in Goshen, Harwinton, Litchfield, Morris, North Canaan, Salisbury, Torrington and Winchester.

FOOD DRIVE: Brooker Memorial is holding a Thanksgivi­ng Food Drive through Nov. 20. All donations will be given to FISH and distribute­d to families and individual­s in the Torrington area. Donations may be brought to Brooker Memorial, 157 Litchfield St., and left in a donation bin outside the main entrance, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Most needed are stuffing mixes, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, potatoes, grocery gift cards, boxed pasta, canned gravy and rice.
