MAAC, NEC release updated basketball schedules

- Staff reports

The MAAC and Northeast Conferences released revised basketball schedules featuring back-to-back games at the same site beginning Dec. 11 and ending March 6.

The Fairfield men’s team opens at home against Siena on Dec. 11-12, and will host Quinnipiac on March 5-6. The opponents are the same for the women’s team, but the sites are reversed so the 2020-21 MAAC slate will begin with games at Siena on Dec. 11-12 and wrap up with contests at Quinnipiac on March 5-6.

The Quinnipiac’s men and women won’t play on the opening weekend. The men will host Manhattan while the women will play at Manhattan on Dec. 18-19.

The NEC will have nine series at the same site and two individual games against a travel partner. The schedule will be mirrored so when the men are home, the women will face the same team on the road. Unlike the MAAC, the dates are slightly different for the men’s and women’s series. The NEC also announced that the conference tournament will be reduced from eight to four teams for this season.

The Central Connecticut women’s program will open at home against Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 8-9 while the men play its first NEC home games on Dec. 15-16 against St. Francis Brooklyn. Sacred Heart is the travel partner. The men’s game between the Connecticut programs is at Sacred Heart on Jan. 15 while the Pioneers will host the men’s game on Feb. 4.

Sacred Heart opens NEC play on Dec. 15-16 against LIU with the men’s team at home and the women’s program opening on the road.
