Light snow, sleet, ice headed for the state
Southwestern Connecticut could see 2 to 3 inches, while about an inch of snow is expected along the coast, the weather service said.
Snow, sleet and ice are in the forecast for the tristate area Tuesday into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS said a low pressure system is expected to hit Tuesday, bringing light snow and sleet accumulation as well as some ice accumulation, to the region.
Southwestern Connecticut could see 2 to 3 inches, while about an inch of snow is expected along the coast, the weather service said. Less than a tenth of an inch of ice is expected across interior Connecticut, with “a glaze” of ice along the coast possible, the NWS said. Any untreated roadways could turn slippery.
Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday for the region, including Fairfield, Middlesex and New London counties in Connecticut.
The storm is expected to bring up to three inches of snowfall and a “light glaze” of ice, according to the NWS.
“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute,” the advisory said.
Higher snowfalls are expected away from the coast.
Snow and sleet are expected to fall Tuesday morning into the early afternoon, the weather service said. Freezing rain will start to mix in with snow and sleet Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
The weather service said there will be light snow and light freezing rain across the interior Wednesday morning, with light rain along the coast. The snow and rain are expected to taper off Wednesday afternoon.
