Blondin reelected to CT Democrats as secretary
GOSHEN — Goshen resident and Torrington attorney Audrey Blondin was unanimously reelected as secretary of the Connecticut Democratic Party.
Blondin has served in this position since March 2018 and is serving her 10th term as the Democratic state committeewoman from the 30th state Senate District in the 14 towns of the Northwest Corner along with fellow member Larry Sweeney of Morris. Along with Blondin, Nancy DiNardo of Trumbull was re-elected chairman, Erick Russell of New Haven was re-elected vice chairman, Maria Valle of Bridgeport was re-elected deputy secretary and Eloisa Melendez of Norwalk was re-elected as treasurer. Blondin was a member of the Litchfield Board of Selectmen for 10 years and has been elected and served as a delegate to five Democratic National Conventions.
Reset challenge focused on ‘spirit, mind and body’
TORRINGTON — The Northwest CT YMCA invites all in the community to participate in a free six-week Reset challenge designed to help transform spirit, mind and body. Text RESET to 844-795-0914. Follow the prompts to sign-up for the challenge that begins Feb. 1.
Each week the goal is to be active 30 minutes a day for five days, and try a weekly reset challenge from national experts in fitness, mindfulness and nutrition. Participants will receive three texts a week filled with motivation, challenges, workouts and more.
To kick off the challenge the YMCA is offering two weeks of free membership starting Feb. 1. Prizes will also be awarded to the first 100 participants to track their workouts throughout the challenge.
Free YMCA live-streaming and on demand classes will be available including Zumba, yoga, HIIT and others.
Challenge participants can also join in a variety of outdoor activities, like our winter hiking/ snowshoeing series, or walking, hiking and running on their own. Litchfield holding logo design contest
LITCHFIELD — The Sustainable Litchfield Committee is offering a $250 prize for a winning logo design that helps to brand our activities here in town. The competition is open to residents of Litchfield.
Litchfield is a registered participant in Sustainable CT, a voluntary state-wide certification program that recognizes thriving and resilient Connecticut municipalities. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, Sustainable CT provides a wide-ranging menu of best practices that municipalities choose to act on. Design Guidance & Intended use for the Logo:
Logo design must include the words “Sustainable Litchfield”, to be included on the Sustainable Litchfield Committee page of the town website; and to be printed on stationery, flyers, shirts, hats, etc. For the final logo, send full color and black & white applications.

H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut holding tack sale
WASHINGTON — H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut, 43 Wilbur Road, Washington, is holding a tack sale Jan. 30-31, 10 am.-3 p.m. to to benefit the rescued horses and to help with feed, veterinary and farrier costs. Social distancing and masks are required.
Any saddle over $200 is $25 off, over $300 is $50 off. Buy 2 winter blankets, save $5. The sale will offer new and lightly used saddles, both English and Western, bridles, various weight blankets, saddle pads, chaps, boots and helmets.
H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization established in 198. Run by a team of volunteers, H.O.R.S.E. has saved more than 700 horses and maintains an ongoing commitment to educating the public regarding horse care.

Scholarship applications now available
HARWINTON — The Harwinton Historical Society will give a $1,000 scholarship to a Harwinton resident or an individual active in the society. Applicants must show an interest in history and/or the social sciences through coursework and/or experiences. Graduating high school seniors and students currently pursuing post-secondary education are encouraged to apply.
Applications are available from the guidance departments of Lewis Mills, Wamogo, Oliver Wolcott Technical High School; or requested on line at harwhistsoc@gmail.com. Applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2021.
Taxes due by Monday
WINSTED — The Town of Winchester Collector of Revenues Halaree Monerat reminds town residents of the Jan. 1, 2021 due date for Supplementary Motor Vehicle taxes as well as the second installment of 2019 Grand List Real Estate taxes. Taxpayers have a grace period until Feb. 1 to pay these taxes without incurring interest or late fees.
Although the Collector’s office in Town Hall remains closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taxpayers can mail payments to:
