Autism webinar for children, adults Feb. 24
TORRINGTON — Many children with autism are afraid of having their hair cut, having their fingernails clipped, going to the dentist as well as other common activities required to keep them healthy. There is help available. Children and adults can learn to tolerate activities without the process being traumatic, according to a statement.
Families are invited to attend a free webinar, presented by LARC’s Autism Resource Center, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24, using the GoToMeeting program. Beth Lambert, BCBA,LBA will discuss the techniques available to teach a child to tolerate having his/her hair cut and teeth brushed. These include materials needed to practice; where to practice; how to prevent distress; how to react if the child becomes distressed; and reinforcement for toleration

LARC's Autism Resource Center provides free webinars on topics that are helpful to families with children and young adults with autism spectrum disorder. The center will be open in the summer of 2021, when programs and services will be available. The goal of the center is to help families enable their children and young adults with autism to live full lives in the community.
LARC serves more than 200 individuals with disabilities throughout Northwest Connecticut. Services include residential group homes, in-home supports, transportation, day and employment programs. LARC’s Social Enrichment program provides critical respite and recreational opportunities such as group outings, social gatherings, and Special Olympics. LARC’s Camp MOE program provides an integrated day camp setting for children to develop friendships, leadership skills, responsibility for self, and respect for others.
