PLAY FESTIVAL CONTINUES WITH ‘EXTENDED PLAY’
The Warner Theatre in Torrington will present the ninth installation of the 9th annual International Playwrights Festival, “Extended Play” by Benjamin V. Marshall of New Jersey.
The play was performed in the Warner’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, with shows continuing through March 11.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Playwrights Festival is a virtual event, and each production is being recorded in the Warner’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre over a period of several weeks and then shown on YouTube and Facebook every other Friday until April.
The mission of the International Playwrights Festival is to recognize the work of emerging and established playwrights and to build a link between the playwrights, the theatre community and our audiences. The festival is a celebration of new works by playwrights from across the country and around the globe. For the ninth year, 150 plays were accepted for consideration from across the United States and as far away as China and New Zealand.
Each production will be available to view online for a period of two weeks before being taken down. There is no fee to watch; donations are always accepted.
The production is directed by Katherine Ray and features the Kevin Knight, Yumeko Stern, Keith Paul and Amethyst. Original music by Amethyst.
The play: At a party in the fellowship hall of an old church, two deejays: one young, the other, mature, clash over the music until a tipsy party goer makes an unusual request.
The Warner has previously produced Benjamin V. Marshall’s “Dad’s Vision.” His play “Incident At Willow Creek” recently won the Stanley Award. Other plays have been produced from Alaska to Australia. Marshall teaches writing at Middlesex County College and Wagner College and is a Dramatists Guild Member.
Coming up: “Relativity and Me” by Len Cuthbert, March 12-25; “Motherhood” by Lawrence Aronovitch, March 26-April 8; “Saul,” by Colleen ODoherty, April 9-22.
