NEW HARTFORD — The Gift Corporation, or The Gift, established as a 501(c)-(3) recently announced its mission and a fivemember Board of Directors who will be advocating for Connecticut individuals and families who are experiencing financial difficulties and other hardships. The Board of Directors includes Anita Barbero – President, Doreen Staskelunas – Vice President, Cheryl Wickham – Treasurer, Denise Badorek–Secretary, Janice Crovo, and Lisa Soliani.

The board has plans for a hybrid fundraiser on Zoom and in-person at the New England Carousel Museum, Bristol, 2-5 p.m. May 2. Susan Saint James has been named Master of Ceremonies.

“This event will continue to support The Gift’s mission assisting community members and families in order to maintain their quality of life. Each recipient is unique, and there are numerous ways The Gift supports individuals and families, including non-covered expenses, returning from active military service, job loss, paying for a funeral, or extra assistance due to a personal or family crisis,” said president Anita Barbero.

The first recipient of The Gift was Kelly Considine, a young woman who struggles with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a chronic pain condition caused by damage to, or malfunction of, the peripheral and central nervous systems. Funds from The Gift were used toward the support of her comfort dog and caregiver relief for her family.

“As a result of the pandemic, the need is far greater in our local communities and The Gift offers financial relief through its donors, sponsors, and fundraising efforts,” Barbero said.
