Council, committees schedule meetings in April

- JOANN RYAN

The Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce has scheduled the following meetings and events. For information, go to nwctchamberofcommerce.org.

⏩ April 6: Small Business Council, 8 a.m. The Small Business Council has been established for the small business owner/manager — the decision makers — to discuss challenges, share solutions and work as a back-office consortium. Many small business owners have issues that they stumble upon throughout their workday that they may not have experience with — but another small business owner does. The Chamber’s Small Business Council is a resource for the owners and managers so they can keep their businesses running smoothly. To be added to the Small Business Council, email Lauren@nwctchamberofcommerce.org.

⏩ April 7: WOW Advisory Committee, 8:30 a.m. The WOW! Forum Advisory Committee works all year long to plan the annual WOW! Women’s Forum held on the first Friday of October at the Warner Theatre in Torrington. The forum is a full day professional women’s seminar featuring keynote speakers, meals, networking and a silent auction. Women from all over Connecticut attend the event each year. The committee selects the speakers, theme for the day, meal options, and works on the silent auction. If you’d like to be on the WOW! Advisory Committee, email Lauren@nwctchamberofcommerce.org.

⏩ April 8: Government Relations Committee, 8 a.m. The Government Relations Committee of Northwest Connecticut’s Chamber of Commerce meets on the second Thursday of the month. The Committee works closely with the Chamber’s lobbyist, Mike Rell, following the activities of the State Legislature. The committee develops an annual Legislative Agenda which is furnished to the Chamber’s Board of Directors for their approval and then presented to the State Legislative Delegation from the Northwest Corner. The Agenda reviews those issues that are priorities to the business community of Northwest Connecticut. The Government Relations Committee also works with the Chamber staff to host the Candidate’s Forum, Legislative Reception, and the Connecticut Business Day. ⏩ April 15: Restaurant & Retail Peer Group, 11 a.m. The newly formed Restaurant & Retail Peer group will have a monthly zoom meeting on the 3rd Thursday to give restaurants and retailers the opportunity to meet virtually and regularly to discuss opportunities and challenges facing them during this pandemic. Chair of the committee is Betsy Paynter, the area representative for the Small Business Development Center. To join the Restaurant & Retail Peer Group, email Lauren@nwctchamberofcommerce.org.
