RUBENS, GERALD (BARBARA)

-

Mrs. Gerald Rubens (Barbara), 89, passed away peacefully in her Boynton Beach home on May 7th, 2021. She was born in Springfield, Mass and was a longtime resident of Torrington, CT. She was the dearest daughter of the late Mark Rice and Janet Gordon, beloved wife of the late Gerald Rubens, and loving mother of her late son Marc Rubens. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Rubens (Daytona Beach, FL), her closest cousin Shirley Davidson (Windsor, CT) and her daughters, Barrie Deschaine (Farmington, CT) and Kathy Ungerleider (Granby, CT) and their families, a granddaughter Lisa Di Fiori (Deerfield Beach, FL), and her favorite cat Leonardo Di Rubens. She was actively involved in the community and was a lifetime member of Hadassah, a member of the Beth El Synagogue, and a former member of the Torrington Country Club of 15 years. Barbara was a proud graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island where she earned her degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She had a passion for cooking and was quite the “foodie”; always clipping great recipes to try or planning her next fabulous meal. Her late husband, Gerald, was president of the Yankee Pedlar Inn prior to moving to South Florida over 15 years ago. In her spare time, she loved to read anything she could get her hands on and downloaded many ebooks on her computer. She even would read the Torrington Register to keep up on her old town of family and friends. Barbara had such a witty sense of humor and always made those around her laugh and smile. She will be dearly missed by everyone that knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 at 2pm at Sons of Jacob Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Thrift Stores, located at 234 Oak Ave, Torrington, CT 06790 in honor of the Rubens Family and condolences may be sent to Barbara’s family and friends by visiting
