LARC awarded funding for lift in group home

TORRINGTON — LARC has been awarded a Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation grant made possible by the Edwin M. Stone and Edith H. Stone Fund, a fund of the Foundation to purchase and install a lift at one of agency's group homes in Torrington.

Many of the individuals served by LARC have very limited mobility and several have limited or greatly diminished strength. The organization continually assesses the positioning and mobility needs of individuals in the programs and residing in group homes and responds accordingly. Recently, it was determined that new adaptive and patient lifting equipment was needed to replace existing equipment.

“We are so grateful for the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation and the work they do to support the community. It is through funds such as the Edwin M. Stone and Edith H. Stone Fund that LARC is able to make safe our group homes for the residents who live in them” said Michael Menard, Executive Director at LARC. “The safety of individuals in our programs and our staff are priority and we are always assessing equipment and upgrades to accommodate evolving needs.

This grant will enable LARC to purchase and install the necessary equipment to safeguard individuals and staff.”

THOMASTON — Thomaston Savings Bank employees raised a total of $2,245 for the Plymouth Community Food Pantry. The Bank’s Denim Days allow employees to wear jeans on Fridays throughout the month for a small donation to a preselected local non-profit which provides vital services to the community. If employees donate a total of $1,000 or more throughout the month, the Bank will contribute an additional $1,000 to that month’s cause.

“Thomaston Savings Bank has been a staunch supporter of the Plymouth Community Food Pantry and its mission to end hunger. The Bank’s most recent efforts have helped us continue our Healthy Options Plus Program, serving local households fresh milk and eggs. Without Thomaston Savings Bank’s humanitarian actions, a piece of the Pantry's fabric would be missing,” said Larry Chiucarello, Executive Director

This organization works towards providing those in need with healthy and nutritious food offerings. Monetary and food donations are welcomed and accepted.
