Race for the gold

- JOANN RYAN

With the Olympics on our minds, the race for the gold is inspiring, despite the triumphs and disappointments. There are lessons to be learned — the pursuit of one’s dream, grace in the face of defeat, positive competitiveness, support of one’s team, pride in representing the U.S.A. and gratitude to those who helped to make it happen. It is history in the making, with examples of determination and sacrifice.

At the chamber, we sometimes feel like we are competing in a marathon to fulfill our mission of promoting economic growth while enhancing the quality of life. We continue to initiate programs that assist you, the business community, in achieving positive results and increasing your opportunities for growth and development during the most challenging period of our lives.

Here are examples to illustrate that we mean business in this unending pursuit for knowledge, resources and the ultimate victory.

Recently we announced another exciting event in collaboration with Northwestern Connecticut Community College. It is the Legislative Reception Sept. 9 at 7:30 a.m. featuring our area state senators and state representatives. Join our elected delegation, leaders of NCCC, our lobbyist and fellow businesses for a spirited discussion about local, regional and statewide issues. You and your team are important to reach the finish line first, so please call us to indicate your participation.

We are nearing the final lap as we recruit our next

class of Leaders for 2021-2022 Leadership NW. Generously sponsored by the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board and Torrington Savings Bank, we continue to provide your potential leaders with a program crucial to their future.

This is a golden opportunity, because Leadership NW is designed to more fully develop the region’s leadership potential by introducing the economic, social and political forces that impact us. It will also provide training in organizational and problem solving skills. You are sure to triumph by applying today.

WOW! The Professional Women’s Conference is in the race as we prepare for the 17th Annual on Friday, Oct. 1 at The Performing Arts Center of The Warner Theatre. You, too, can win the gold by registering at www.wowforum.org.

This year’s theme, “Mindfulness Matters” will capture your minds, hearts and souls with an outstanding cast of brilliant women. Register by Sept. 1, and you can get the $125 ticket for $100. There’s no doubt…this will be a victory!

The competition is fierce but we are surrounded by champions who work with us as we strive for the winning score.
