Top seeds Elia, Holbrook advances to Borck semifinals

Alex Elia won both of his matches on his home course Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the 52nd Borck Junior Championship at Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield.

Elia defeated Charlie Dolan (Glastonbury Hills CC) 4 and 3 and Chris Lang (Silver Spring CC) 2 and 1. He will face Sebastian Beaver (unattached) in the semifinals on Wednesday morning.

Dan Casanta (Ridgewood CC) and Charlie Stuhr (Redding CC) will face one another in the semifinal on Wednesday morning. The 18-hole final will follow in the afternoon.

Mia Holbrook, the medalist from Monday’s stroke play portion of the championship, won her quarterfinal-round match 4 and 3 over Leslie Li (Tumble Brook CC). She will square off against Lydia Welborn (Golf Performance Center) in the semifinals.

Jordan Levitt (Rockrimmon CC) and Ava Gross (New Haven CC) meet in the other semifinal Wednesday, with the championship match to follow.

NORTHERN JUNIOR

Tyler Lee fired a 4-underpar 66 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round of the 19th Northern Junior at New Haven CC.

Lee, from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, has a twostroke lead over Milford’s Ben James, who won the last two Northern Junior tournaments in 2018 and 2019. James shot a 2-under 68.

Lance Hollingshead (New Jersey) and Michael Ostrower (New York) are tied for third at 69. Andrew Stickel (Greenwich) and Brad Sawka (Ellington) are in a sixway tie for sixth place at 70.

There is a five-way tie for the lead in the girls junior tournament: Laniah Moffett (Waterbury), Jieming Yang (Florida), Samantha Galantini (New Jersey), Lauren Jones (Pennsylvania) and Sophia Li (New York).
