Teams needed to register for Corn Hole tournament
NEW HARTFORD — A corn hole tournament is being held during New Hartford Night, Sept. 18, 3-9 p.m.
Organizers are asking for teams to pre-register in order to properly prepare for the event.
Those who are interested in competing in this event and claiming the right to be New Hartford Day 2021 Corn Hole Champion, along with cash prize. To register your team, email chayward@newhartfordct.gov
Warner Theatre is holding birthday party on Aug. 28
TORRINGTON — The Warner Theatre, which opened in 1931, is celebrating its 90th birthday, and the public is invited to attend the birthday party, 3-7 p.m. Aug. 28.
The afternoon's festivities include heavy hors d’ourves, a cocktail reception with a signature cocktail by Litchfield Distillery, a special chocolate tasting by Fascia’s Chocolates, and live music by Lucinda & Mick and The Red Hots. Guests can sign up for exclusive parties, bid on items in a silent auction and take a chance at winning fun prizes.
After the party, residents are encouraged to have dinner and drinks at a downtown restaurants and bars, stroll through the gardens at the Torrington Historical Society and Coe Memorial Park and celebrate the reopening of Torrington.
Once purchased, tickets will be held at the door.

Foundation accepting grant applications
BURLINGTON — Main Street Community Foundation (MSCF) is currently accepting applications for grants distributed from the Burlington Community Fund. Nonprofit organizations serving Burlington residents are encouraged to apply. The Online Grants Center can be accessed through the Foundation’s website, www.mainstreetfoundation.org, and includes the application, the full guidelines and eligibility criteria. All proposals are due Aug. 27 at 4 p.m.
Consideration for grant awards from the Burlington Community Fund will be given to, but not limited to, proposals requesting support for charitable projects in the areas of community outreach, arts/ culture, youth programs, education, health, human services and the environment.
Interested organizations should contact Kate Kerchaert, Director of Grants & Programs, at kate@mainstreetfoundation.org or 860-5836363 for a preliminary discussion of their proposal at least 7 business days prior to the deadline.
The Burlington Community Fund was established in 2011 at MSCF by a group of committed community leaders in Burlington who were interested in creating an additional resource for charitable projects and programs that would enhance the lives of Burlington residents. Either the organization or the program for which funding is requested must be located in Burlington and be of benefit to Burlington residents.
In addition, the Foundation is accepting applications for grants distributed from the Men & Boys’ Fund. Nonprofit organizations with programs serving men and boys in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott are invited to apply. These proposals are also due on August 27.

Foundation announces Walks to End Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s ® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. On Walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with Promise Flowers during the Promise Garden Ceremony.
The Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association serves the more than 80 thousand people living with Alzheimer’s in the state, their caregivers and people concerned about brain health. We offer free education classes, support groups, care consultations and activities for those in the early stages of dementia.

Salisbury Bank holding shredding event, food drive
LAKEVILLE – Salisbury Bank is continuing its initiative to fight against identity theft while building community goodwill by sponsoring a Free Shred Event and Food Drive.
Community Shred “Drive-thru” Day is open to anyone, and will be held at the Lakeville branch - 5 Bissell Street, Lakeville, 9 a.m.noon Aug. 21.
For the safety of all participants and volunteers the bank has changed its Community Shred Days format to "Drive-thru", and established the following guidelines: limit 4 bags / boxes per car (paper only; no binders); masks for those who are unvaccinated.
Residents are asked to consider bringing a non-perishable food donation as well - local pantries need a variety of donations including: canned goods, cereals, macaroni and cheese, cake mix, peanut butter, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and tomato sauce. Household necessities such as paper towels, diapers, shampoo, and soap are also appreciated.
