WINSTED PEACE VIGIL: Winsted Area Peace Action will hold a candleligh­t vigil at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at East End Park, Main Street, Winsted, to commemorat­e the 76th anniversar­y of the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombings, which killed more than 214,000 citizens and leveled tow cities, were the first and only nuclear weapons used in a war. At 8:30 p.m., participan­ts will sing songs of peace joined by the young people from Camp Kinderland based in Tolland, MA, which has been a co-sponsor of this vigil for many years.
