Groups to hold ‘Belonging’ event on Wednesday

TORRINGTON — The public is invited to “Celebrate Belonging” in the northwest corner with food, music and activities, from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Coe Memorial Park, 101 Litchfield St.

The event is being presented by the Conversations in Your Community group and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging Council, sponsored by Friendly Hands Food Bank and The B.E.R.E.A.D.Y Project.

“The groups have created this dynamic event to engage the Torrington and surrounding communities in a celebration that brings awareness to the issues of

diversity, equity and inclusion that people may be facing, whether race, religion, mental or medical disability, financial status, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression,” according to a statement. “They want to encourage acceptance of all differences so all can feel included and supported in their community.”

Vendors selling culturally diverse food will join booths with information and activities from organizations that advocate for equity and inclusion, and live entertainment. The food and exhibits will run from 3 to 6 p.m.

The event will conclude with a free raffle drawing and a Conversations in Your Community open forum discussion about what it means for people to belong. Community engagement is highly encouraged.
