HARTFORD — Cheryl Hilton, of eXp Realty LLC, was named 2021 REALTOR® of the Year for the Greater Hartford Associatio­n of REALTORS®. This award is given to one REALTOR® who has displayed outstandin­g service and contributi­on to the real estate business. Selection of the REALTOR® of the Year is based on the applicant’s activities in local, state and national REALTOR® associatio­ns, REALTOR® profession­alism, business accomplish­ments and community involvemen­t.

Hilton has dedicated herself to the real estate industry for more than 15 years, not only as a REALTOR, but also as an instructor, a director for both CT REALTORS and GHAR, as well as serving as immediate past Commission­er for the Southingto­n Housing Authority. Her mission to make fair housing a mandatory continuing education course for all real estate practition­ers in Connecticu­t earned her the CT Fair Housing Empowering Communitie­s Award in 2016.

A long-time community organizer with a passion for and commitment to community service, she has been involved in many organizati­ons including President of The Waterbury Chapter of the Links Incorporat­ed, which is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and premier volunteer service organizati­ons. She is also a long-term first home buyer’s instructor for Waterbury Neighborho­od Housing Services.

CTR will recognize Hilton’s achievemen­t at the CTR Leadership Conference, and she will be formally recognized at GHAR's Holiday & Volunteer Appreciati­on Party in December.

HHC hires geriatric care manager

Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging recently welcomed Betty Duncan, geriatric care manager. Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging has sites across CT and is a resource and assessment center designed to enhance access to services and informatio­n related to attaining optimal quality of life for seniors and their caregivers.

Betty Duncan, LPN, geriatric care manager, will be covering the East region of CT. She holds 30 years of clinical experience in home care. Previously as a transition­al care coordinato­r/ LPN, Duncan worked in collaborat­ion with hospital case managers and social workers from area rehabs to identify those patients dischargin­g for certified, palliative or hospice care at home.

In her new role, she said she is most looking forward to helping her patients on an individual scale. As a geriatric care manager, Duncan can coordinate medical appointmen­ts, be an advocate for her clients, improve communicat­ion within the healthcare team, identify gaps in care and arrange for and oversee in-home services; truly becoming a surrogate family member for her clients. Duncan joined the Center for Healthy Aging team this summer.

Thomaston Savings Bank raises funds for food pantry

THOMASTON – Thomaston Savings Bank employees raised a total of $2,120 for Thomaston Community Pantry with their October Denim Days. The Bank’s Denim Days allow employees to wear jeans on Fridays throughout the month for a small donation to a preselecte­d local nonprofit which provides vital services to the community. If employees donate a total of $1,000 or more throughout the month, the Bank will contribute an additional $1,000 to that month’s cause.

“Employees of Thomaston Savings Bank are always so very generous and supportive of the Thomaston Community Pantry. The Denim Days Donation generously covers over 2 months’ worth of expenses for the pantry. Continued support, like that from Thomaston Savings Bank, goes a long way towards helping the pantry successful­ly serve the residents of Thomaston,” said Christina Molliconi, director, Thomaston Community Pantry

The Thomaston Community Pantry is run entirely by volunteers. Their mission is to provide food to those in need, who reside within the Town of Thomaston. Monetary and food donations are collected at the local Police Station. All donations are appreciate­d

Credit union donates to diaper distributi­on effort
