Books & Blooms benefit set for June 17-18
CORNWALL — The Cornwall Library's biggest fundraiser of the year is the annual garden tour, known as Books & Blooms.
This year, garden writer Page Dickey will kick off the festivities at 6 p.m. June 17 with “Bringing Meadows into the Garden” at the UCC Meetinghouse in Cornwall Village, 8 Bolton Hill Road, just around the corner from the library. Following her presentation, a cocktail reception will be held outside the library under a tent, for ticketholders of the talk and sponsors of Books & Blooms.
The author of eight books and editor of one, Dickey's most recent book is “Uprooted: A Gardener Reflects on Beginning Again” that was published in 2020.
At 10 a.m. June 18, the event continues with garden tours. A special addition this year are the gardens of the Cornwall Castle, which has been featured on the cover of Litchfield Magazine. Transportation from the library to the Castle will be provided by all-day shuttle bus service.
“The three other gardens are equally enchanting and represent the varying landscapes found in Cornwall, including a village location, a dreamy spot alongside the Housatonic, and a landscape garden in a bucolic country setting,” organizers said in a statement.
Tickets $30 for the talk, $30 for the garden tours or $50 for both. Register and purchase at cornwalllibrary.org/booksblooms-2022, or contact the library.
Tickets and maps for the garden tour may be picked up at the library June 17, 12-6 p.m. or June 18 starting at 10 a.m.
The library will have new and out-of-print gardening books, tea towels designed by Cornwall artist Debby Jones, and cut flowers arranged and donated by members of the Cornwall Garden Club, all for sale.
