Woodbury Lions celebrating Maifest at Quassy

-

WOODBURY — The Woodbury Lions Club is welcoming spring in a new way this year, with their Maifest on May 28 at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury.

Like the better-known Oktoberfest, Maifest is traditionally celebrated in Germany every year. The Woodbury Lions Club version will be welcome local breweries including New England Brewing, Twelve Percent Beer Project, OEC Brewing, Newsylum Brewing, and the first public appearance of Caius Farm Brewery. Music will be provided by Schwarze Schafe, an authentic German band. Food will be available for sale.

“This will be our first beer festival, and we’re excited to have so many local premier breweries joining us,” said event chairperson Lion Erich Reichert. “This area hasn’t seen a German festival in a long time, and a beer festival is something completely new. It’s the right time to have one.”

There will be two sessions, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Tickets are $40 per session, and include a limited-edition commemorative tasting glass. Tickets are available through beerfest.woodburyctlions.org. Participants must be 21 years old to enter, designated drivers are admitted free, and parking at Quassy is $10.

Like all their events, the Woodbury Lions Club uses the proceeds to support their many efforts in their community. Besides awarding scholarships to graduating Woodbury high-school seniors, they support the Woodbury Community Services food and fuel banks, perform pediatric and geriatric vision screenings, the American School for the Deaf, the Regional Hospice, the Lions Low Vision Centers of Connecticut, the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundations, the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, and the Lions Club International Foundation, which provides humanitarian needs for entire communities, including disaster relief.

Maifest tickets can be purchased in advance at beerfest.woodburyctlions.org, and for more information, contact the Woodbury Lions at WoodburyCtLions@gmail.com.
