Knights of Columbus breakfast to benefit Ukraine fund

TORRINGTON — The Knights of Columbus, Solidarity Council #55 is holding a pancake breakfast to support the Knight's Ukraine Solidarity Fund, from 8-11:45 a.m. June 19 at St. Peter Hall, 109 East Main Street Torrington.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for a children's meal and will be sold after the Sunday Masses at Saint John Paul the Great Parish, or on the day of the event.

Members say they anticipate indoor seating, but will have takeout available.

The Knights of Columbus Solidarity Council #55 is not just part of St. John Paul the Great Parish, but part of the worldwide Knights councils. As of today, the Knights of Columbus have donated almost $17 million supporting the people of Ukraine as refugees or in the Ukraine directly.

Renew dog license and get a free drink

TORRINGTON — City Clerk Carol Anderson reminds dog owners that all dog licenses should be renewed during the month of June. Dogs not licensed by June 30 will be considered delinquent and subject to $1 per month penalty. Unlicensed dogs may be subject to a fine.

License requests may be made online, in person or by mail to the City Clerk's Office, 140 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790. A self-addressed, stamped envelope must be included in your request by mail. Online license renewals will be available on the City of Torrington website www.torrington­ct.org. A processing fee of $1.75 will be applied.

Dog owners are required to furnish an up-to-date rabies vaccinatio­n certificat­e and new dogs require proof of spaying or neutering, if applicable. City Clerk Staff will not make vaccinatio­n inquiries on behalf of dog owners. Fees are $8 for a spayed or neutered dog, and $19 for an unaltered dog.

Checks should be made payable to “The City of Torrington.”

Persons who no longer have their dogs are asked to contact the City Clerk's Office at 489-2236 with that informatio­n.

The City Clerk has teamed up with Bad Dog Brewery at 117 Water St. in Torrington, offering a coupon for a free drink (with purchase) for every dog license issued.

Class of 2014 files to be destroyed

BURLINGTON — Members of the Lewis S. Mills High School class of 2014 should be aware that their cumulative folders will be destroyed on or about Aug. 10.

Society invites works for summer show

SHARON — The Sharon Historical Society & Museum invites submission­s for its summer show, a juried exhbition and sale at Gallery SHS, from July 16-Aug. 26.

Gallery SHS invites artists to submit for considerat­ion original works in any medium (e.g. Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Photograph­y, Pastel, Ink, Graphite, Drawing, Print, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Assemblage, Fabric, Stone, Clay, Metal). The show has no requiremen­ts limiting subject matter or size of artwork. Judge or judges to be announced.

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25 for up to two (2) works of art, $10 for each additional submission. The show's judge will select the art to be exhibited and award cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50 to three pieces.

In addition, guests who attend the show's opening night will have the opportunit­y to select their favorite work of art which will receive the “SHS Crowd Pleaser” award. Submission­s must be delivered between 9-11 a.m. July 9. NWCT chamber creates ‘Zines for Teens’

TORRINGTON — A team from the the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Northwest Program commission­ed four local teenage artists to provide artwork for their “Zines for Teens” project.

“Zines” are cartoon-style minimagazi­nes which are popular with teens and adolescent­s. The leadership team gathered together to find ways to help spread awareness of mental health services and resources in a way that would spark teenagers' interests. The goal was to encourage teens to seek help when struggling and to normalize conversati­ons surroundin­g mental health.

The Leadership Northwest group working on the project included Pam Tino from Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Katie Connolly from Northwest Community Bank, Ruby Swartz from BD, Lauren Pristo from McCall Center for Behavioral Health, and Dan Santorso from FISH NWCT. They commission­ed the incredible artwork by Charles DaCunha from Shepaug Valley School for the Mental Wellness zine art; Alexandra Baez from Torrington High School illustrate­d Healthy Eating; Jordan Elliott from The Gilbert School illustrate­d for the zine on Depression and Anxiety, and the art for Suicide Prevention was illustrate­d by Matthew Vinisko from Litchfield High School.

The project was sponsored by Becton Dickenson (BD Manufactur­ing), Northwest Community Bank, and NWCT Arts Council.

The zines can be downloaded and printed from the website at LCOTF.org/zines.

A reception for the artists will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whiting Mills Studios, 210 Holabird Ave., Winsted.
