All-America, all-state teams announced
CIAC Class L champion Staples had three players earn All-America honors, and Class M champion Wilton had four as the Connecticut High School Lacrosse Coaches Association released the state’s All-America and all-state selections on Tuesday.
Staples’ Henry Dodge, dominant on faceoffs in the championship game, was named the state’s Player of the Year. The Wreckers’ Will Koshansky was named Coach of the Year, and Staples was also Team of the Year.
Three players — Dodge, Staples attackman Charlie Howard and Darien attackman Matt Minicus — were All-American for the second year in a row. Four of the 16 All-Americans — Cheshire junior attackman Charles Kurtz and sophomore midfielder Matt Jeffery, Ridgefield sophomore attackman Kyle Colsey and Fairfield Prep junior midfielder Marco Firmender — were not seniors.
Foran’s Joey Honcz was named the recipient of the state’s Bob Scott Award, which goes to a senior “who goes above and beyond in service to his team, school, and community.” Honcz, a cancer survivor, is active in children’s cancer charity and support.
