‘Art at the Meetinghouse’ juried show returns for 17th year
ROXBURY – The Roxbury Congregational Church is holding the 17th Annual “Art at the Meetinghouse”, a Juried Art Show, June 17-19.
The show includes more than 130 works by artists from throughout the region, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastels, printmaking, mixed media, fine craft, sculpture and graphics. The church is located at 24 Church St., Rt 317 in Roxbury Center.
There will be numerous awards presented at 7 p.m. Friday during the opening reception at the church. The Best in Show award is a $1,500 cash award.
All works are for sale. Proceeds support the mission activities of the church.
“Art makes a wonderful gift for any occasion,” said Charlie Meade, one of the show’s organizers. “Each year we have so many wonderful high-quality works of art, in all price ranges, submitted for the show,” he said.
This year’s Juror for the show is Linda West, a contemporary representational artist. In pursuit of an art education in New York, she received a Certificate for Fine Art from the National Academy of Design, was a Merit Scholar of the Art Students League, studied at Grand Central Academy and privately at the atelier of Burton Silverman, according to a statement from the church. Her additional studies were at SACI in Florence, Italy.
Awards include first place at the Faces of Winter Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists Exhibition, the Vasari Artists Oil Colors Award for Excellence in Oil at the Salmagundi Club, the Artwell Gallery Show 4A Show — Mark of Excellence Award from the Mattatuck Museum, Best in Show President’s Award and the F.Mora Award for Portrait at the Kent Art Association President’s Shows.
