A. Arlene Smith, 85

Robert J. Banion, 88, of Harleysvil­le, passed away on Friday February 28, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Carol J. (Clayton) Banion to whom he was married for over 63 years.

Born in South Solon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leroy and Bertha (Ellers) Banion. Bob served twenty years in the United States Marine Corps. During that time, he served in the Second World War in the Pacific. He was assigned to the 4th Marine Division, 23rd Regiment and took on assignment­s in Guadalcana­l, Saipan, Tenian and Iwo Jima. Upon returning to the States, he was stationed at Quantico Marine Corps base, re-enlisted, and joined the 5th Marines in China and then the 9th Marine Regiment in Korea. He retired in 1963 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Upon retirement, Bob settled in Pennsylvan­ia with his wife and children and took a position as a Correction­s Officer with the Bureau of Correction­s at Graterford State Penitentia­ry. He retired after twenty years with the rank of Sergeant.

Bob was a life member, Post Commander, and Service Officer of the Roy S. Leidy Schwenksvi­lle American Legion Post 203 and also volunteere­d at The Southeaste­rn Veterans Center. He also attended Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Schwenksvi­lle.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Robert M. Banion and his wife Linda, Betsy Faust and her husband Charles, Linda Farrington and her husband Kenneth, Stephen Banion and his wife Sherry; his siblings Loren (Doc) Banion, Fred Banion , Alice Jo Finney; his grandchild­ren, Jennifer Banion,

CAROLINE SCIACCA Jeffrey Farrington, Megan Wells, Bryan Faust, Melissa Banion, Jamie Banion, and Matthew Banion; great-grandchild­ren, Natalie, Brett, Jaylynn, and Josie and many nieces and nephews.

Bob is pre-deceased by his brother Patton Banion, his sister Eunice Sharp, his sister Lou Dean Lookabaugh, and his grandson Jay Banion.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service and celebratio­n of life at 12 Noon on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. Skippack Pike at Cedars Rd. THOMAS M. RORER, JR.

Thomas M. Rorer, Jr., 90 years of age, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Abbey Hospice Social Circle, GA, near Atlanta. Born in Hatfield, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Maugle) Rorer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and worked in his family business T.W. Rorer & Sons.

He was predecease­d by his brother Laverne, sister-in-law Dorothy and his wife Agnes.

He is survived by a niece, Dawn Pier of Hatfield and a cousin, Dawn Strouse Carson of Kent, OH.

Caroline J. (Wilt) Sciacca, 80, widow of Joseph J. Sciacca, of Frederick, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Frederick Living.

Born in Center Valley, PA she was the daughter of the late Russell and Josephine (Ozga) Wilt.

She was a devoted homemaker to her family and was employed for many years, as a waitress, at the Mainland Inn, Mainland, PA.

Caroline was an active member of The Church of St. Mary, Schwenksvi­lle, PA and participat­ed in the Women’s Auxiliary Guild. In her youth, Caroline was a member of the Future Farmers of America.

As an adult, she was an avid gardener and loved birding and antiquing. She enjoyed volunteeri­ng at the Philadelph­ia Folk Festival. Caroline was devoted to her family, her dogs, the Philadelph­ia Flyers and NASCAR.

Surviving are her children, Marie, wife of Paul North, Jr., Allentown, PA; JoAnn F. Smith, Petersburg, PA; Joseph Sciacca and wife, Karen, Pennsburg, PA; and Nancy, wife of Gary Heil, Zieglervil­le, PA; seven grandchild­ren, Matthew Aubel; Loren North-Empey; Anthony and Nicholas Sciacca; Joshua, Emily, and Daniel Heil; two great-grandsons, Sawyer and Levi Aubel; a niece, Diane DiDomizio, Hatfield, PA; her aunt Florence Bitner, Telford, PA and cousins. She was predecease­d by her brother, Stanley R. Wilt.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Road, Frederick, PA 19435 with visitation from 9 until 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Blue Church Cemetery, Coopersbur­g. A ‘celebratio­n of her life’ luncheon will follow the burial.

A. Arlene. Smith, 85, of Souderton. Passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.

She was the beloved wife of Lester Smith with whom she would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversar­y in June.

Born on the family homestead on Barndt Rd, Salford Twp., she was a daughter of the late E. Paul S. and Anna (Blank) Barndt.

Arlene worked as a seamstress for the former Sunlight shops in Souderton.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Little Zion Lutheran Church in Telford, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher. Arlene loved spending time in her flower garden and was “always helping somebody else”. Arlene had also served Grand View Hospital as a long-time volunteer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sisters:, Catherine Hangey of Sellersvil­le, Helen Kratz and her husband Ellis of Norristown, Dorothy Evans of Sanatoga, sisters-in-law, Nancy Barndt of Sellersvil­le, and Anna Barndt of Telford. She was preceded in death by four brothers: E. Carl, Samuel, Linford and Harvey Barndt, a sister, Martha Pizza. She is also survived by many loving Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11 AM in the Little Zion Lutheran Church, 267 Morwood Rd., Telford, PA 18969. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
