Car restoration expert honored for tenure in town
LANSDALE>> October’s Business of the Month is one that can repair nearly any damage area residents inflict on their vehicles.
The Detail Shop, located at 600 W. Third St., received the monthly award f rom borough Economic Development Committee member Richard Strahm on Wednesday.
“From the Under the Lights car show, to cruise nights, to First Friday cruises, we’re a town in motion, in cars. This month’s Business of the Month award goes to a company that loves cars and keeps them beautiful,” said Strahm.
Located in the borough for the past 10 years, The Detail Shop has been owned by borough resident Bob Chambers for roughly threeand-a-half years, Strahm said. He first learned of the shop and their services when, as Strahm told council, a passenger tried to drink a full coffee in the rear of his car with no lid.
“One bump later, and all 20 ounces of the coffee went all over the back seat of my 1-month-old car. Bob made it look like it never happened,” Strahm said.
As he spoke, Strahm showed a series of beforeand-after photos depicting the work the company does to restore vehicles to look new. Interior detailing can remove scuffs and scrapes, traces of food, and pet hair, while exterior detailing can take off the salt and snow damage that accumulates over time.
“Day to day life can be rough on cars. We commute, ferry kids around, haul stuff, eat, and more in our cars, and our cars bear the brunt of it, but The Detail Shop can make you fall in love with your car again,” Strahm said.
Headlights can be restored to their normal brightness, wheel rims can be fixed to remove scuffs and bumps from close contact with curbs, and small dents can be removed without resorting to large-scale hammering and repainting, Strahm said, showing slides of such work before and after.
“They don’t treat your car like it’s yours — remember, that’s how it got in the shape that it’s in. They treat it like it’s theirs,” he said.
