Michael N. Tillger, a resident of Southampto­n Estates, died peacefully on Monday, Aug., 22, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in 1923, a son of Michael A. and Josephine Tillger in Philadelph­ia, he moved in 1924 to Ardsley, where he resided for 88 years.

He attended Abington High School, was a student orator and graduated cum laude in 1941.

He was then drafted by the Army in February of 1943. He trained at the Moore School of Engineerin­g, Carnegie Institute of Technology and LSU at Baton Rouge and was placed in the Army Signal Corps and sent onto England. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and remained in Paris until March of 1946.

Upon returning home from World War II, he continued his education and graduated from Temple University in 1949.

In 1950 he sat for his CPA exam and practiced for more than 60 years until his retirement at the age of 88 in 2012.

In 1953 he married Hedwig Patricia Hagosky and was married for 57 years until Pat’s death in 2010.

Michael was a devoted Catholic and was taken up to Heaven on the feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Mike was a founding member of Queen of Peace Church in Ardsley.

He received the parish’s Man of the Year Award in 1998. He served as a council member and was involved with the Men’s club and Senior Club and served on the parish Finance Committee for more than 40 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Men of Malvern and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mike also served as a den leader for the Cub Scouts and received the silver leader award from the Disabled American Veterans Group.

He was a member of the American Institute and Pennsylvan­ia Institute of CPAS and was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma fraternity for profession­al businessme­n.

Michael’s favorite pastimes included traveling extensivel­y in the United States and Europe and spending time at his vacation home at Lake Wallenpaup­ack with his family and friends.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Patricia H. Tillger (2010); his sister, Helen T. Klein (2013); and his nephew, Leo J. Hughes, Jr. (1992).

He is survived by his three children, Patricia Tillger Schutter (Robert), Michael F. Tillger, CPA (Michele) and Alice J. Tillger, Esq.; along with three grandchild­ren, Michael Zachary Till ger, Kyle Edward Till ger, Luke Benjamin Till ger; two step grandchild­ren, Michael J. Schutter (Erin), and Michelle J. Woodling (Brad); four great-grandchild­ren, Addison, Baleigh, Annabel and Katie; his sister, Ann Tillger Hughes; and three nephews and two nieces.

Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Church, 820 North Hills Ave. (at Fitzwatert­own Road) Ardsley, PA 19038.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at the church after 9 a.m.

Interment is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
